Taking up residence inside the five-star Beach Rotana hotel, Barhaus takes the title of Abu Dhabi’s original German restaurant.
Barhaus is home to three distinct spaces, namely a bar area, main dining room and the spacious outdoor terrace. The former has the feel of a traditional pub, featuring high stools, dark wood furnishings and plasma screens. The dining room follows suit with padded cream chairs and an exposed brick ceiling, while the terrace is a far more modern affair, boasting wooden decking, verdant foliage and heaters for after the sun sets.
The menu at Brauhaus is a tribute to authentic and traditional German cuisine. Starters include the likes of goulash soup with paprika and sour cream which is served with a garlic baguette, as well as baked Camembert cheese accompanied by cranberry sauce. Main courses are just as rich, with diners able to choose from wiener schnitzel, currywurst, or chicken cordon bleu stuffed with farmer’s ham and Emmental cheese.
Barhaus is also a great option for large group dinners, as it has a dedicated section on its menu of dishes that are large enough to share between friends. Perhaps try the oven roasted pork knuckle which was rubbed in a dark beer sauce and served with potato dumplings, or tuck into the mixed platter of grilled sausages which is finished off by smoky cheese and a North German potato salad.
Kids aren’t an afterthought either, with Barhaus offering up some child-friendly dishes so that you can bring along the whole family for dinner – think breaded chicken escalope with French fries or potato dumplings in a gravy sauce. Both children and adults alike will fall for the Barhaus dessert selection though, with pudding options including the tempting likes of Grand Marnier cheesecake with passion fruit sorbet, or a fluffy pancake that’s sprinkled with caramelised raisins, almonds and apple compote.
