This beachfront restaurant promises buckets of fun and fresh seafood. Overlooking the ocean it’s the perfect spot to indulge in a generous portion of the finest fruits of the sea. The restaurant space itself is a laid-back and quirky spot without a tablecloth in sight. Colourful wooden furniture, warehouse style light fittings and a living wall give this vibrant venue a relaxed and fun feel – ideal for large gatherings of friends and families who want to unwind and share some top quality fish and seafood without any of the fuss. As the name suggests all the dishes are served with an apron and hammer to encourage guests to get stuck in and messy with the preparation of their lobsters, crabs and jumbo shrimps.
The restaurant prides itself on its ample sized portions and ‘just-caught freshness’, along with some top secret herb and spice combinations that are used as marinades and garnishes for many of their signature dishes. Grilled oysters are a popular starter – order four or eight – topped with four different seasonings; tomato and cumin, béchamel sauce, parsley butter and spinach and breadcrumbs. Elsewhere chef’s cold catch is a great choice for sharing with the table and comprises a large platter of mud crab, shrimps, oysters, clams, whelks, mussels and smoked salmon. For Mains diners are advised to go for ‘what we do best’ – an unrefined bucket of whatever’s fresh that morning – be it blue crab, shrimps, mussels or lobster cooked in your choice of sauce. For something more exotic the Aprons & Hammers paella is also a great way to experience some delicious seafood with the addition of slow cooked rice seasoned traditionally with saffron, paprika, garlic and olive oil and tender veggies.
If shellfish are less your bag (or bucket in this case) then there are plenty of fish and meat options too. We love the sound of the grilled fillet of the day which comes cooked to perfection, topped with homemade olive & herb oil and your choice of rice, fries or a side salad. Simple but undoubtedly delicious!
