The best seats in the house are by the huge, floor-to-ceiling retractable windows that open up the entire space to the lush planting outside that spills onwards to the lakes beyond. Not to worry if you don’t manage to bag a front row seat however, anywhere you find a table you’ll be rewarded with beautifully designed soft furnishings and gorgeous interior design touches.
The brand itself is a franchise but the owners have put in a careful framework for franchisees to work within so that customers are treated to the same high standards at whichever branch they visit. You might notice the signature slogan across menus that reads ‘in grandmothers we trust’ – a nod to the team’s ethos. They say that they want to serve up food you grandmother might have made, with the same carefully selected ingredients and homestyle quality.
While the franchise might have started in Barcelona, since opening in the the UAE it’s made quite the splash on the social scene. Here, people come in their hundreds to experience the beautiful interiors and colourful menus which run from breakfast through to dinner. Think a choice of eggs any way, burgers, pastas, pizzas and salads.
The Jumeirah Islands branch happens to also be the bakery for all of the other Dubai sites too, so you can guarantee fresh cakes and pastries whenever you visit. The ‘grandma’s cakes’ section runs through red velvet, carrot and blueberry chiffon, all of which are beautiful triple layer creations that come with beautiful garnishes. If you want something a little more dainty, perhaps plump for a blackberry and white chocolate éclair or a slice of almond chocolate orange tart.
