Demon Duck is a high-end Chinese eatery owned by celebrity chef Alvin Leung, star judge of Masterchef Canada. Leung is elevating traditional Pan-Asian dishes using his ‘X-treme Chinese’ style of cooking.
After much deliberation, Caeser’s Palace Dubai Bluewaters was chosen as the location for Leung’s much-anticipated venture into the Middle East. The space is eclectic, high-energy and eccentric, with pop art, graffiti and images of roast duck lining the walls. Standout features of the venue include a show kitchen, speakeasy-style bar, zen outdoor terrace and most importantly, a statue of a giant duck with horns. The attention to detail in the décor is impressive, with details such as mosaic-patterned crockery, chopstick rests designed like ducks' feet, and demon duck table number holders.
As the name may suggest, duck is the restaurant’s speciality, with crispy-skinned Peking duck taking centre stage, a dish so popular that it’s advised to pre-order before arriving. Demon Duck’s signature dish is dry-aged for 14 days, slow-roasted, flamed tableside, and skilfully carved.
However, duck isn’t the only dish available. Demon Duck offers elevated Chinese classics, such as wasabi shrimp on toast and pan seared duck dumplings with foie gras sauce, as well as Western-inflected Chinese food, like bang bang chicken served with a tangy and sour sauce, and sweet and sour chicken, made with lychee and Turkish delight.
There are also nods to local cuisine - lettuce wraps with an Arabic twist, red pepper hummus sprinkled with crispy duck, and aromatic pineapple shawarma, a creative interpretation of a Middle Eastern staple.
The drinks list is comprehensive, with an array of wines, sake, cognac, whiskey, and spirits. However, the standout feature is the cocktails, named after different tourism sites, streets and nightlife hotspots in Hong Kong which aim to capture the atmosphere of each of these areas.
