Boasting a plum location in Souk Madinat Jumeirah, Folly by Nick & Scott is an informal restaurant that finds its home in a rather attractive setting, serving up lunch and dinner.
As the name suggests, the restaurant is a joint venture between chefs and friends Nick Alvis and Scott Price. The duo worked for Michelin-starred British chef Gordon Ramsay for fifteen years, cooking in his restaurant kitchens across London, Paris and Dubai. They left Ramsay’s empire in 2011 to launch Folly under their Taste Kitchen brand and haven’t looked back since.
To access the restaurant, you climb up a narrow staircase which leads you into the rustic-chic dining room, featuring exposed brick walls, cosy teal banquette seating and dark wood tables and chairs. The title of best seats in the house though, surely belongs to the eight-seat Kitchen Bar, which places you directly in front of the open kitchen. You can dine from the regular menu here, but for a truly unique experience, we’d recommend opting for the chef’s tasting menu, with the kitchen team explaining each dish as it’s presented to you.
Speaking of the food, the à la carte at Folly by Nick & Scott is a collection of ingredient-led, modern European dishes. Starters include duck tartare topped with papaya and cashew nuts, as well as brown shrimp with cabbage and nutmeg. Mains meanwhile, see the likes of monkfish spiced with paprika and salted lemon, or perhaps plump scallops pepped up with jalapeno, avocado and lime.
To round off your meal, try one of Folly By Nick & Scott’s desserts, which tap into the chef’s British heritage. Tuck into the comforting likes of rhubarb and custard or stick to the savoury side of things with a platter of British cheeses that is served alongside date chutney and oat crackers.
Don’t miss the charming outdoor garden terrace and lounge either, which is full of verdant foliage, soft lighting and its own dedicated bar.
