Honeycomb Hi-Fi is an Izakaya style dining room, mixed with an eclectic range of sounds from a weekly Dj set, continually changing art exhibitions, vinyl records for sale and a book shop. Giving you a space to eat, drink, listen and look, Hi-fi offers a quirky spot for all, no matter your passion. Chef Matt Abergel heads up the kitchen, serving classic Izakaya dishes as well as his own signature creations. For food, expect some cold and raw options like sesame eggplant, tai sea bream sashimi with sudachi, olive oil and ponzu. Then for hot dishes, think lamb gyoza with loa gan ma sauce, mochi stuffed wings and market fish karaage with yuzu kosho tosazu. Larger plates come from the binchotan grill, with the likes of chicken bicep with red yuzu kosho and sesame, duck breast with yuzu honey, and nasu eggplant with masil shiso miso, along with rice and noodles. For dessert, think black sesame cheesecake with miso, tofu and oats, or monaka ice cream sandos like honeycomb with vanilla ice cream or caramel with miso ice cream.
Drinks offer anything from Sake with varying price ranges, to beer in the form of well loved Asahi draught or bottled Kirin, as well as wines and cocktails.
The listen section comes into play with different vinyls being played from a variety of artists, to become your musical background whilst you eat on delicious Japanese food. The interior is slightly edgy, something rarely seen in Dubai, as if it’s been picked up from East London and popped into the centre of Dubai. The walls are mainly decorated by vinyls, and there’s a bar that has large speakers above it, plus even more vinyls on shelves. At Honeycomb Hi-Fi, it’s clear that music is taken just as seriously as the food and drink.
