Located in the swish setting of the Grand Hyatt Hotel, this dining space is a sophisticated yet relaxed setting to enjoy a feast of authentic Singaporean food. The wooden interiors with hues of pink and soft velvet upholstered seats are complemented by low-lighting that casts a warm and inviting glow across the restaurant. An open kitchen and live seafood station add to the theatrics of the dining experience at Peppercrab, and outside an intimate terrace is a romantic spot for dinner as the sun goes down.
Diners are advised to start with a selection of appetizers, perfect for sharing with the table. Salt and pepper calamari is a popular choice, as are the chicken and beefs satay sticks; spring rolls with sweet and sour sauce; and wasabi prawns with mango salsa. For something lighter the seafood glass noodle salad is a lovely fresh alternative garnished with crushed peanuts.
True to the restaurant’s name, crab is a particular highlight here and diners can choose between mud crab or a more seasonal variety served with their choice of sauce; the signature black pepper sauce, a classic Singaporean chili sauce, a spicy Malay style coconut gravy, or just simply wok fried with salt and pepper. Alternatively live Boston lobster, king prawns or jumbo scampi prawns are also available and again can be cooked and served with the diner's choice of condiments and seasonings.
Those who prefer fresh fish can choose from cod or sea bass – steamed, deep fried or grilled – with a selection of optional rice and noodle dishes to accompany it.
Elsewhere on the menu other Singaporean favourites include a fried tofu and eggplant claypot with spicy bean sauce; wok fried duck with spring onion and ginger; and a hot and sour seafood soup. Traditional desserts include a chilled pandan avocado cream; a chilled mango soup with black sago; or pisang goreng – fried bananas with a vanilla sauce.
