Toro Toro was launched by Chef Richard Sandoval in 2011 as a celebration of contemporary Latin cuisine in Doha. Toro Toro is among a multitude of dining options at Marsa Malaz Kempinski, The Pearl. The restaurant has dark floors, walls and furnishings, with gold and bronze embellishments creating understated opulence. Through its floor-to-ceiling windows, Toro Toro has beautiful views over the Arabian Gulf. The restaurant is fronted by two large bull sculptures, and the namesake bull is evoked throughout the internal décor.
Chef Sandoval’s menu focuses on the elevation of Latin American dining, with Pan-Latin styles and flavours explored through its dishes. The chef’s specials include slow-cooked beef cheeks with polenta and a miso-marinated Chilean seabass with rice and mascarpone cheese. Other highlights are the Venezuelan sweetcorn pancakes with halloumi cheese and sour cream, and the smoked Guacamole. Toro Toro also serves other Latin classics including tacos and ceviche, as well as a range of ‘suviche’, sushi inspired by the flavours and ingredients of Latin American cuisine. Desserts on offer include a passionfruit cheesecake and a dulce de leche fondant served with chocolate ice cream.
Toro Toro hosts a number of special events throughout the week, the highlight being the Wednesday night party, a ‘ladies night’ event in which ladies get two complimentary drinks with their food order, with a range of beverages available for QAR 40 all night. There is also ‘Taco Tuesday’ every Tuesday evening, and a brunch event on a Friday afternoon from 2pm to 5pm. The restaurant’s ‘Latin sips’ happy hour is every evening from 7pm to 9pm, showcasing the selection of Latin spirits and cocktails on offer.
