At first it can feel tricky to uncover Sharjah’s dining scene, but once you’ve settled into this fun UAE city there are plenty of gems to discover. As the third biggest metropolis, after Dubai and Abu Dhabi, you’ll soon find Sharjah certainly isn’t short of options with one of the most popular restaurants being Black Salt. The restaurant opened in 2017 and has drawn both tourists and residents to its dining room consistently since.
Here, the colourful menu and far-reaching options appeal to all kinds of diners and ensure that tables are kept packed every day of the week. Keen adopters of both sous vide cooking and molecular gastronomy, you might expect Black Salt to be uptight and stuffy, but it’s anything but. There’s a relaxed, warm ambiance and dishes are surprisingly approachable with fun takes on international crowd-pleasers.
First thing in the morning there’s a far-reaching breakfast menu that covers off all the tried and tested favourites. Think classic eggs Benedict, a rich shakshuka and French toast made with house-crafted brioche and served with a rose and vanilla cream. The BYOB (build your own breakfast) is also popular, with a whole range of options under headings like ‘eggs', 'carbs' and 'sides’ available to assemble together into your perfect plate.
Later on, the all-day dining menu comes into its own. Here you’ll find playful sharing starters like loaded potatoes, fajita messy fries or mac ‘n’ cheese nachos. Come mains there’s everything from pasta through to kebabs on offer. Favourites include pepper chicken pasta which allows you to select your ideal shape from a run of bowtie, penne or linguine; as well as Swedish kebab flatbreads piled up with grilled meat, salad and sauce.
Our advice? Don’t skip desserts. Here you’ll find a tempting line-up of things like Eton mess, Snickers cheesecake and a red velvet tower.
