Freestyle is an apt name for this multifaceted restaurant which describes itself as the ‘finest steakhouse in Dubai’ but in reality serves a menu that extends well beyond just steak. The concept’s huge popularity in China where it first launched with sites in both Shenzhen and Guangzhou, quickly led to the brand’s duplication overseas and Dubai was a natural fit with a population already well versed in international fusion cuisine. The site itself is in enviable spot at the heart of Al Seef directly next to the Dubai Creek with picturesque waterfront views. In a refelction of its innovative cuisine the interiors are fiercely contemporary and almost futuristic in their design. Geometric shapes and shiny furnishings create an overwhelming sense of opulence whilst distinctly Middle Eastern colours and patterns set this striking venue apart from its siblings in China.
The food from internationally acclaimed chef Kemal Ceylan is a celebration of creativity – taking traditional dishes and elevating them with luxury ingredients and modern culinary techniques. The menu largely centres on premium-cut meats and locally sourced seafood but also comprises a wide selection of fresh salads for those seeking something lighter. To start guests can choose from a selection of warm and cold options with highlights including the caviar beef tartare on a base of crispy rice and sesame sponge topped with a quails egg yolk and ponzu sauce; and Thousand Island – a combination of eleven vegetables with a creamy potato espuma, mango beetroot purée, basil mint pesto and quail eggs. Mains comprise a large selection of kebabs and steaks with choices of lamb, beef and chicken to choose from, or seafood dishes including salt baked sea bass and honey black cod.
Desserts are aesthetically pleasing platters of elegant sweets presented with dry ice and panache – perfect for special occasions. For something more traditional choose the homemade baklava drizzled with flower honey and pistachio.
