Gusto Italian Restaurant conjures the warmth, spirit and friendly atmosphere of a genuine Italian trattoria in the heart of Dubai, right on the banks of the Dubai Creek in Riggat al Buteen. There's nothing rough and ready about the interiors here though - located high up on the 18th floor of the Al Bandar Rotana - Creek Hotel, the restaurant interior is chic with chequered flooring, smart wood-panelled walls, geometric-patterned upholstry and white tablecloths. The gleaming marble open kitchen with bronze trim and uplighting is also worth checking out, as is the marble bar counter.
The highrise location also means that Gusto boasts stunning views of the famous Dubai skyline and of the marina, especially from the open air terrace, which has been designed to mimic the airy feel of an Italian piazza.
As for the menu, Gusto is a tour of classic Italian dishes from all over the country. Starters include the likes of beef carpaccio with rocket salad, burrata with truffle and tuna tartare. The menu is extensive and has a selection of pasta and risotto dishes, as well as salads, soups and meat mains such as grilled lamb chops with potato fondant and baby chicken with chilli mustard sauce. There's also a large seelction of pizza options, including margherita, frutti di mare, and a white pizza with mozzarella.
Throw in dessert treats like cannoli, tiramisu and artisan gelato and you'll no doubt leave Gusto feeling well fed. The drinks list is compact but carefully curated, with a handful of wines joining bottled beers, cocktails and digestifs.
